If you’re raising bilingual children or teach in a bilingual school, SpanglishBaby is a brand new blog you’re going to want to know.
Created by bilingual moms Ana and Roxana, SpanglishBaby is building an online community where parents who are raising, or plan to raise, their children bilingually can come together to get advice and practical answers. Ana was born in Texas but raised in El Salvador while Roxana is originally from Peru. Today they both live in the United States in states (California and Colorado) where bilingualism is an important issue.
In “What in the world is a ‘mapache‘?, Roxana, a former TV journalist, writes a humorous first-person account about how her two-year-old daughter keeps her on her toes when it comes to speaking Spanish. In another entry, she writes about award-winning bilingual books for children.
Topics discussed on the blog will run the gamut from reviews and recommendations to food to cultural traditions to informative posts about bilingualism. The “Ask an Expert” feature invites readers to get their parenting questions answered by a team of bilingual experts. There’s also “La Tiendita,” where SpanglishBaby offers its bilingual picks for sale.

this information is really good and helped me a lot on my report! Thank you so much!
Hi,
Our daughter, almost 4, speaks English like me, her mom, but only responds to Papi’s Spanish with English. She seems to understand him fine but won’t or isn´t able to respond in Spanish. We work overseas so aren´t in either of our home countries, native languages.
Any suggestions? When visiting his family in Mexico she was starting to speak Spanish as no one there knew English.
Hi Karen,
Try to get your hands on this book: “The Bilingual Edge” by Allison Mackey. It has a lot of good info. You can get a small taste of what kind of info it has by clicking on the link below. Good luck!
